Sonderausstellung 2020: ECHO - Die Aura der Antike: Werner Kroener
ECHO - Die Aura der Antike: Werner Kroener
20th June 2020 to 12th September 2021
Ancient art is old, but up-to-date – this is demonstrated by this
exhibition with works by Werner Kroener, all of which take ancient
originals as their starting points. Werner Kroener ventured into his
first exhibition of this kind in 2016 with the successful exhibition
entitled “Time Codes – The Power of Images” in Munich’s Glyptothek. For
the exhibition at the Rheinisches Landesmuseum Trier, depictions of
objects from ancient times from Trier and Munich are juxtaposed with
Kroener’s digital, self-luminous paintings. The result is a poetic,
colourfully shimmering interplay between the idealised ancient art and
its interpreted image. The exhibition also proves clearly that important
aspects of life can still be addressed by
ancient art even today.
Werner Kroener, born in 1944 in Koblenz, describes his intentions: “I
feel like a guide in the current tsunami of imagery. I would like to
encourage the viewer to compare and decipher the images and to explain
images with images”.
